Honquest Designer Wins Prestigious Window Treatment Award
Designer Nancy Sibrava of Honquest Furniture for Living won Second Place for the design of a Combination Treatment in the 2012 Envision Design and Workroom Ingenuity Awards being announced this week at Vision 12: International Window Coverings Expo™ at McCormick Place in Chicago.
With a degree in interior design, Sibrava is a Licensed Interior Designer in the State of Illinois and has achieved the designation of Certified Residential Designer through the CQRID Exam given by the Interior Design Society (IDS). She has practiced design for 31 years
Sibrava designed her winning window treatment as a major architectural statement for the dining room of a vintage (1920s) co-op on Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive. Her challenge was adding architectural detail and drama to the room while continuing the gold leaf accents found throughout the high-rise that support the building’s historical design elements.
Her design is a dramatic swag and cascade treatment with a dramatic center medallion and carved finials. Hung on a decorative rod, it is fashioned of almond colored Dupioni silk with a golden lattice scrollwork combined with neutral sheers with a silver-gold stripe that adds subtle pattern complimenting the furniture’s formality. The cascades are finished in beading the lead edge of which is finished with silver-gold gimp tape. Because of the west facing view, light filtering roller shades were mounted inside the window frames for for UV damage protection.
Industry professionals and instructors judged the competition based on attention to clients’ needs, creativity, design excellence, construction perfection, elements and materials. Winners were chosen from nearly 100 entries nationwide. Categories included: type of window treatment; room; commercial or residential; and overall excellence.
