Barrington High School has been evacuated due to a hazmat situation on campus.

According to Barrington 220's Chief Communications Officer Jeff Arnett, a suspicious package was found on campus early this afternoon. While police investigated, they decided to release the students early as a safety precaution.

"School was dismissed around 2:20 this afternoon. It was mostly a precaution," Arnett said. "Because it was just shy of dismissal time police decided to release the students."

School buses were called to the school early to get students home quickly and safely. Officials are still investigating the incident. Check back to Barrington Patch for updates.
