Did You Know Barrington Has a General Store?

Roots 2 on Park Avenue in downtown Barrington is an urban twist on an old-fashioned general store, offering artisan food, beer, wine and custom art.

If you're planning to serve bloody Mary's to your guests any time soon, stop by Barrington's general store, Roots 2, on Park Avenue.

"Our bloody Mary section is second to none," says owner Todd Rhodes. Bloody Mary supplies include Bennys Beef Straw.

"It's our view of what a general store would be. We have tons of food items," Rhodes said. Roots 2 is Todd and Joy Rhodes' second store in downtown Barrington. They also own the rock and Americana store, Grassroots.

Roots 2 carries locally made food items as well as specialty food like the Sea Salt Nuts from Blue Crab Bay Co. Todd says the store goes through two cases of atomic horseradish per week.

Roots 2 also has craft beer and wine tasting and plenty of art.

Looking for a wooden spoon with a picture of Bob Marley? You'll find it at Roots 2 as well as custom rock icon images and custom art windows.

Check out the art at Roots 2 gallery nights which are being held the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Browse art from local artists while tasting food and wine.

In recently meeting the owner of Roots 2, it was obvious that he enjoys providing his customers with unique and useful products. He was personable and made my family feel welcome as he described some of the items that he thought we might like. My son was inspired by the artwork on a skateboard that he took the time to show us. He never would have looked twice at the skateboard if the owner didn't point it out and show us his enthusiasm for the artists work. We will continue to shop at Roots 2 partly to buy some neat items and partly to see the owner who treated us like old friends. Luv that!
