Donations Needed to Keep Catlow Theater Open

The historic Barrington movie theater may need to convert to the digital age to remain open.

The Catlow Theater has been a mainstay in Barrington for 85 years, but the beautiful Main Street landmark may need to close its doors if it can't go digital.

Catlow Theater owner Tim O'Connor wrote a letter published on Kickstarter.com that explains the Hollywood movie industry is soon eliminating their use of film. This means every theater in the country would have to convert to using a digital format to show movies, including the Catlow.

The cost of this upgrade for the Catlow Theater would be at least $100,000. O'Donnell explains he needs the support of the community in order to make this possible. Kickstarter.com is serving as a fundraising site for the Catlow. Head to the website to make a donation.

There are only 55 days remaining for the Catlow to reach its goal of $100,000!

From what I understand from industry insiders, if you raise the 100K the studios reimburse you for the conversion. They want to see that you have the capacity for them to make an investment in you. Where an I wrong?

Not so. They help out the bigger chains that can get VPFs and, from what I've heard, have more say over what they play and for how long.

Tear all that junk down and widen the streets.

Barrington needs to mobilize all good citizens and community organizations, including students, to save this important landmark and anchor of Main Street.
