Fashion, Fundraising and a Little Rock ‘n’ Roll

Grassroots fashion show to benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Looking to add a little edge to your style? Grassroots is holding a Rock ‘n’ Roll fashion Show at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18, at McGonigal’s Pub to benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The denim-based show will feature fashion-forward looks with a rock music theme.

“Some of the clothes we sell are a tad bit out of people’s comfort zone. We want to show them it’s OK to wear it if you like it. People like to stay in their comfort zone with polo shirts and stuff like that. We want to encourage people to wear what makes them feel good. You can still be comfortable and have that edge,” said Joy Rhodes, who owns Grassroots with her husband Todd Rhodes.

Friends of the Rhodes and employees will be modeling the clothes.

“Everything we sell is fashion forward, but at a good price point. Everyone will be wearing denim from our store. There will be a mix of flavors. Some really rocker, some more casual and some a little beachy, Rhodes said.

Consolidated Music of Barrington donated an electric guitar for a raffle. There will also be a silent auction and a music trivia contest with giveaways.

Musician Andy Spitson will play guitar covers from classic rock to current hits.

The evening includes appetizers and a cash bar.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children and can be purchased at Grassroots or McGonigal’s Pub.

Rhodes said the shop has donated previously to Make A Wish Foundation, which gives hope and grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.

“I think it’s a great organization,” she said.
