Four Charged In 2011 Murder

Four people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a man found in Penny Road Forest Preserve last year. 

David P. Campbell, 27, of Waukegan, was found naked and partially submerged in Penny Road Pond on July 7, 2011. Investigators say he was strangled and ruled his death a homicide. 

Nadia Palacios, 22, of the 3500 block of Winhaven Drive, Waukegan, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Roberto Guzman, 24, of the 1000 block of Berwick Boulevard, Waukegan; Eric Castillo, 24, of the 38400 block of North Sheridan Road, Beach Park; and Jose Horta, 19, of the 300 block of Edison Court, Waukegan were also charged.

Man Charged In Connection with Friend's Drowning

A 44-year-old man whose body was recovered from Gages Lake on Tuesday afternoon was identified by the Lake County Coroner as Richard Stoneking.

His companion, Eric W. Oomens, 46, was charged with failure to stop or comply with requirements involving an accident, collision, casualty duty to report and render aid, a Class 2 Felony, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

On June 18 at approximately 9:40 p.m., the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a suspicious circumstance on Gages Lake, located just east of Route 45 in unincorporated Grayslake.

Woman Indicted For Crash That Killed 8-Year-Old Boy

Hanin Goma, the 23-year-old who allegedly caused an accident that resulted in an 8-year-old boy's death, was indicted at the Skokie Courthouse on Thursday.

Goma, a Skokie resident, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and felony aggravated assault. She is also charged with driving under the influence of drugs, prosecutors told the Chicago Tribune.

With her bond set at $250,000, Goma is waiting in jail for her July 9 arraignment.

Buffalo Grove

Altercation After Board Meeting Investigated

Buffalo Grove police are investigating an altercation that occurred Monday night among a group of residents at Village Hall.

Words were exchanged after the meeting between former trustee Lisa Stone, who had addressed the board, and local blogger Stan Zoller. Buffalo Grove resident Bonnie George stepped in to defend Stone.

“There will be a police investigation,” said Buffalo Grove Police Chief Steve Balinski, who was nearby when the scene erupted. “We will consult with the Cook County State’s Attorney, too, to review the facts.”

Stolen Lawnmowers

Charles David Lewis, 64, of Palatine was charged with misdemeanor retail theft after two lawnmowers were taken from Walmart, 1555 N. Rand Road. According to police reports, at about 11:42 a.m., a witness saw Lewis using a bolt cutter to cut the chains to the lawnmowers in the front of the store and loading them into his vehicle. The witness reported the sighting to store security. After reviewing store footage, police were able to identify Lewis’ vehicle and located it at Wolff’s Flea Market, 1775 N. Rand Road.

Police said Lewis had the bolt cutter in his car’s front seat and admitted to taking the lawnmowers and said he already had sold them for $50 each. Police were able to locate one of the lawnmowers that was purchased at the flea market and returned it to the store.
