When winning or being number 1 is everything in a culture, funny stuff does occur. Virtue and principle gives way to vice and expedience. That holds true for sports, business, politics and everyday life and it is what eventually brings a nation down.

What makes this whole thing silly is that there are confirmed cheaters already in the hall. Geyord Perry did everything he could to doctor a ball, he made it just fine. Countless players used "greenies" to gain a competitive edge. It's silly that some of these guys didn't make it. The MLB refused to acknowledge it so their ratings would continue to soar, now that these guys have retired the league has turned it's back on them.
They are making changes to clean it up now which I love, but acknowledge your history and let them in.

They should follow the lead of our famous cyclist and just admit their faults
