Styling Concerns After Receiving Your New 'Do'

Okay, so you go to your favorite stylist and they make your hair look amazing! Then, you wash your hair at home and disaster strikes. 

Listen to your stylist as they educate you on how best to work your new look while they are styling it for you.  Start with using an appropriate shampoo and conditioner.  If you have colored and or highlighted hair, you want to use a shampoo that will provide the best care for your hair type.

Most hair responds best to some form of a leave in detangler or leave in conditioner.  This allows the hair cuticle to close and be smooth.

Choose an appropriate styling tool. Mousse? Gel? Spray in Gel?  Make sure your styling tool provides support to your particular hair type.  This means if you have fine hair, a “jelly” like gel substance may be to aggressive, thus could break your hair.  If you have over processed hair,  remember, products will soak into the hair shaft faster as a result of being over porous.  Seek an alcohol free product and this will minimize tangling when styling. 

Try to use a similar brush when styling and learn how to use in the same way.  When blow drying, wait until hair is mostly dried before putting in brush as hair is most likely to tangle when half wet half dry. 

When deciding on your finishing tool, remember you worked hard at getting your hair smooth, choose a hairspray that will provide shine but not weigh your hard work down.
