Fireworks, festivals and free bowling – it’s all in your neighborhood in celebration of the Fourth.
Where/When: Lions Park, 1170 Silver Lake Road, Cary. Friday, July 1 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Why go: Cary throws a free Fourth celebration at Lions Park Friday evening. Food, refreshments, live music and a fireworks display at dusk are all part of the fun.
Why go: In celebration of Independence Day, all Brunswick Zones in America (including the Algonquin location) are giving away one free bowling game per person July 1 through July 4. You can bowl a free game each day, for up to four free games!
Pricing: Free for the first game, no age restrictions.
Where/When: North Commuter Lot, 201 Spring St., Barrington. Friday, July 1 through Sunday, July 3 from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday July 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pricing: Daytime (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.): $5 for kids for unlimited activities, hot dogs, chips and soda, adults free; nighttime (after 5 p.m.): $5 adults, $1 ages 14 – 17, under the age of 13 free.
Where/When: Lakeside Park, 401 Country Club Road, Crystal Lake. Thursday, June 30 and Friday, July 1, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Saturday, July 2, 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Sunday, July 3 and Monday, July 4, 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Why go: The 32nd Annual Lakeside Festival benefits the Lakeside Legacy Foundation, which supports the arts, historic preservation and community programs. Enjoy live music, food, a carnival midway, an “adult beverage” garden, a baggo (bag toss) tournament and more. The Lakeside Legacy website has the full schedule of events and performances.
Pricing: $5 gate charge, $3 for seniors 65 years and up, free for active military and children ages 12 years old and under; free admission to the carnival midway.
Where/When: Coral Street between Church and Woodstock Streets, Huntley. Saturday, July 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Why go: The Huntley Farmer’s Market celebrates Independence Day with their All American Family Fun Day. Entertainment includes a decorate your bike/pet/stroller/self station for an Around the Block Parade, kids games, face painting, food and more.
Where/When: Sunday, July 3. Parade from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Lakeside Legacy Foundation at the Historic Dole Mansion, 401 Country Club Road, Crystal Lake. Fireworks at dusk at Lake Park, 300 Lakeshore Drive, Crystal Lake.
Why go: Enjoy a Sunday afternoon parade at the Lakeside Legacy Foundation at the Historic Dole Mansion, then fireworks at dusk at Lake Park.
Pricing: Parade free, fireworks admission at Main Beach is $2 per person or $10 per family, with parking free to residents or $5 for non-residents.
