Residents of Clare Oaks to Participate in Tree Planting Ceremony Commemorating Milestone Anniversaries and Arbor Day Celebration

Residents of Clare Oaks will be planting oak trees in Oak Grove Park on Friday, April 26 at 3 p.m. in honor of Arbor Day.

Residents of Clare Oaks, www.clareoaks.com, a continuing care retirement community, located in suburban Bartlett, will be planting oak trees in Oak Grove Park on Friday, April 26 at 3 p.m. in honor of Arbor Day.  This planting will also commemorate two milestones at the community:  Clare Oaks recently celebrated the 5th anniversary of its opening, as well as the 50th Anniversary of the presence of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis (SSJ-TOSF) in the village of Bartlett, who were founders of Clare Oaks.

Arbor Day was originally held in April of 1874 in the state of Nebraska.  Today, the day is most often observed on the last Friday of April and throughout the years many U.S. Presidents have proclaimed this day as the official Arbor Day, according to the Arbor Day Foundation, an organization dedicated to inspiring people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees.

The event at Clare Oaks, called “Acorns Grow!”  is open to the public, especially those residents and neighbors of Oak Grove Park.   The event will begin with the Clare Oaks residents’ trip to the Bartlett Historical Museum where they will have the opportunity to view the historical display of the ongoing ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph, TOSF, the community’s original founders, before returning to plant trees at the park.

The President of The Order, Sister Jane Blabolil, said, “We are thankful to have played such an integral part in the growth of Clare Oaks over the years.  We hope future generations will come to appreciate Clare Oaks and its beautiful surroundings and these trees will be a wonderful addition.”

Beth Welch, executive director of Clare Oaks echoes those sentiments.
