The Organic Way

October is the month of Cancer Awareness, I felt compelled to talk about the Organic way of living.

At a recent trunk show, I promoted Organic products from NYR Organic.  I love their products not because they smell naturally good, but they have an ethical standing of thirty years using only the highest quality ingredients straight from Mother Earth without chemicals, synthetics, and so on.  One of my visitors asked me why I bothered to promote organic products.  She asked me, "Don't you ever put chemicals on yourself anyways?"  I looked at her a bit curious.  Well, I smiled, and told her that since a lot of people are not aware of better options they have in selecting products for their well-being, I feel good letting people know of the Organic Way!

One of the most fascinating thing about nature is that there are herbs, flowers, trees, everywhere for us to enjoy visibly and also to use for medicinal and holistic purposes.  This is how Mother Earth nurtures us.  We are meant to be in harmony with nature, and not try to re-create something that looks and feel like it.  In turn, these substitutes harm us in many ways.

October is the month of Cancer Awareness, I felt compelled to talk about the Organic way of living.  Let's take one of the many plants in nature and take a look at Rosehip Fruit Oil.  Rosehip oil is unique among vegetable oils in containing retinol (Vitamin A).  It is also high in Vitamin C and in the Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids.  Vitamin A helps to delay the effects of skin aging, assists with cell regeneration, and helps to promote the formation of collagen and elastin which results in firmer, smoother and more youthful-looking skin.

Synthetic tretionoin is an ingredient in many commercial preparation such as Retin-A; however, the side effects include temporary peeling, redness and blistering, and a permanent increase in sun sensitivity.  Retinoic acid in its natural form makes it more skin friendly with many benefits and fewer side effects.  I am so happy that some of the people of influence like Lauren Bacall, Jennifer Aniston, Robert Downey Jr., Paris Hilton are supporter of the Organic products.  We do not have to be a super star to afford nature, it is all around us to be appreciated.

Here is a great recipe for Strawberry Rosehip Jam for the October potting parties!

Fresh Strawberries - 1150g/2-1/4 lb; 2 Tbsp lemon juice; 1000g / 2 lb castor sugar; some dried rosehip (steeped in water prior to use)

Put all the ingredients into the pan and leave until the juice runs.  Heat slowly until the sugar is dissolved.  Boil 10-15 minutes until setting point is reached.  Cool for 5 minutes before potting to prevent the fruit from rising in the jars.

Serving suggestions:  On scones with English clotted cream served with hot tea.

Enjoy!
