Ask Peter: Document Your Experience On Healthcare.gov

WASHINGTON – Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the latest installment of Ask Peter today, a frequent video conversation with Sixth District residents about issues important to them. In this segment, Congressman Roskam answers an email from Barrington’s Timothy Gorman who expressed serious frustration with trying to sign up for health insurance on the Obamacare exchange website, Healthcare.gov.

“Be very cautious as you’re trying to sign up at Healthcare.gov. And the reason is there still is the possibility of penalties and other fines that are applicable for people that don’t sign up. So what should you do? Make clear documentation of your attempts to sign on. Take notes. Give dates, phone calls or other interactions that you have. Take screen shots. And there’s another reason to protect yourself in terms of the possibility for fraud at the back end. House Republicans continue to push for oversight of Obamacare to make sure that it’s applied fairly and that the worst parts of it aren’t unfairly forced on Americans.”

Today, Congressman Roskam is launching a new webpage entitled “The Health Care Law—What You Need to Know” on roskam.house.gov.  It is a one-stop-shop of questions and answers on the health care law, how it will likely impact Illinois families, and suggestions on common-sense ways consumers can protect themselves from potential fraud, penalties and double billing issues.  The site also gives 6th District residents a way to contact the Roskam office specifically with stories about using the exchange website HERE.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 29 at 10 AM, the Committee on Ways and Means will hold a hearing where the head of CMS, the agency responsible for implementing Healthcare.gov, will directly address the problems with the site. If you have a question for the head of CMS, submit your question at roskam.house.gov.
