Barrington Farmers Market Wraps Up for Season

The last Barrington Farmers Market of 2011 was held on Oct. 20.

Despite the cold, rainy day in Barrington on Oct. 20, the Barrington Farmers Market ended its 2011 season on a high note.

During its 11th year of operation, the Farmers Market drew in more crowds than ever before from the June 11 opening until the Oct. 20 closing sale. Market Co-Chair Judy Bruce was pleased with this year’s turnout

“I thought it was great. We only had really two days that it rained, and it was the last two days,” Bruce said. “We’ve had more people every single year that we’ve had the market here. It’s a great community event.”

A variety of new vendors made their debut at the Barrington Farmers Market this year including Aunt Millie’s Pies and Acacia Organics. A unique rotating vendor was also introduced that allowed for a different store to sell their goods each month.

The opening of the 2012 Farmers Market is still months away, but Bruce and the other volunteers who run the market are already thinking ahead. Residents can look forward to more musical entertainment, weekly children’s activities and even a rotating artist booth in 2012.

“Every week of the market we’ll have a different artist presenting their artwork and they’ll come and do a mini art show,” Bruce explained.
