Barrington Garden Faire Offers An Enchanted Dinner with Oz

Christina Currie Events partners with vendors to create an enchanted dinner.

Christina Currie plans the kind of events worthy of magazine photo spreads.

And families will want to bring their cameras to the extravaganza Currie and her partners are planning for the Barrington Country Garden & Antique Faire.

Currie is one of designers of the outdoor party settings featured at this weekend’s Garden Faire. The theme of Currie’s setting is Dinner with Oz.

The Garden Faire will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22. Currie will also give a presentation “10 Top Trendy Outdoor Ideas for Entertaining” at 12:30 p.m. each day. Tickets are available online. The Garden Faire benefits Hands of Hope, which helps women and children in South Africa.

Currie and her team wanted to do something whimsical for the younger crowd who visit the garden faire, said the Barrington businesswoman via an email interview.

It was an easy decision to whip up something fun based on the recent movie Oz the Great and Powerful, she said. The movie was released this spring.

Currie has designed children’s parties using the Wizard of Oz theme.

The “theme never seems to get old because there are countless ways to incorporated the décor from Emerald City,” Currie said.

Christina Currie Events partnered with Tablescapes, Meetinghouse and Calligraphy by Laura on the overall design.

Dinner with Oz will also serve a backdrop for workshops where Currie and other experts will provide tips on entertaining. She will be handing out note cards with 10 entertainment tips. There will also be prizes and Truffleberry Market, a caterer, will be handing out samples of delicious summer drinks and hors d’oeuvres, she said.

Currie and her team will be working a lot this week to prepare for the event. The unveiling will be Friday morning.

While she can’t divulge too many details or a sneak peek, she did have one tip.

“I will tell you that kids should watch for the bubbles because you never know if Glinda the Good Witch will be making a visit,” she said.

Dinner with Oz is going to be a fun event, but she keeps in mind that the goal is to help raise funds for Hands of Hope. Currie wants to encourage families of all ages to visit the Garden Faire to help Hands of Hope.

Other Garden Faire designers include:

  • Lori Lennon of Lori Lennon & Associates, Lake Forest
  • Linda Peterson, Pam Losey and Rinetta Dowell of Pasquesi Home and Garden, Barrington
