Barrington Residents React to Storms

Barrington Patch's social media followers on Twitter and Facebook chime in about the July 11 storms.

Many Barrington residents are in the dark today after heavy storms rolled through early July 11.

ComEd tells Patch that Barrington residents aren’t alone. As of noon July 11, 298,000 customers in the northern suburbs had no electricity. A spokesperson said it could take days to restore power to everyone.

Fans of Barrington Patch’s Facebook page spoke out today about the power outages.

“Lots of huge branches and electricity is out. In 15 years we have never had no electric!” Doreen Colletti-Muhs said.

Ginger Johnson Pillman said the elderly are especially suffering without electricity right now.

“My 84 year old Mom doesn't have electricity. Nor does her neighbor across the street that is the same age,” she said.

Barrington Patch Twitter follower Jennifer Bulandr isn’t letting the power outages get in the way of having a good time with her children. 

“Playing Buzz and Woody and reading ‘choose your own adventure’ books!” she tweeted when asked what residents are doing to entertain themselves today.

Here are some things to do and places to go to keep busy today that don’t require electricity.

  • Head to the where electricity, air conditioning and Internet service are all still going strong. 
  • Enjoy the warm weather now that the storms have passed by heading to any of the Barrington Park District’s parks.
  • Take a stroll through the Cuba Marsh walking trails located at .
  • Make the drive to and get some exercise on the hiking trails.
  • Take a stroll around the block and help clear debris from your neighbor’s yard.
  • Play cards or board games with a loved one.
  • Escape the heat and read a book in your nice and cool basement!
