Barrington High School football team’s Bronco Burger is the top seller, so far, in Meatheads’ Burger Battle.
The Burger Battle is between the Bronco Burger and the “Billy” Burger, created by BHS cheerleaders.
“It’s pretty close,” Meatheads manager Tim Freskos said. “The Bronco burger is ahead right now, but there’s a lot of time.”
Meatheads is donating 10 percent of every burger sold to either the football team or the cheerleader squad, said Joe Sanders, director of marketing. Whoever wins the competition will have their burger on the menu throughout football season, he said.
The Bronco burger is a 1/3-pound certified Angus beef with American cheese, bacon, Cajun fries, ketchup lettuce and grilled onion.
The “Billy” Burger is a 1/3-pound certified Angus beef with provolone cheese, bacon, kechapeño, buffalo ranch, lettuce and raw onion.
The battle continues through Sept. 22 at the Barrington restaurant, 500 S. Hough St., when the winners will be crowned.
