Community Church of Barrington to Host Annual Fall Festival

The free block party is filled with food, fun and games.

It’s not often the community of Barrington is invited to an absolutely free party complete with games, food and fun, but the is offering just that this weekend.

The oldest church in Barrington is hosting its annual Fall Festival on Sunday, Sept. 25. The event promises live music, hot dogs, games and prizes, all free of charge. All are welcome to join in on the fun, even if you aren’t a church member.

“It’s not our church, it belongs to everyone who is in the area,” said Samira El-Yasir, the church's director of Christian education. “It’s about bringing friends and family together. We would invite everybody who wants to come, whether they are a baby or they are 100 years old.”

The highlight of this year’s event is the brand-new “Dunk the Pastor” feature. For a small fee, you’ll have the chance to try and dunk Community Church of Barrington's pastor, the Rev. Dr. Zina Jacque.

“Yes, they are dunking the pastor! I’m not quite sure how we got to this, but it’s happening,” she laughed.

The Fall Festival will take place after Sunday worship services at 11:30 a.m. This weekend’s message is all about laughter and joy.

“When you think about carnivals and festivals, you think about laughter and joy,” El-Yasir said. “The message is laughter and joy and how do those things tie in. You go from the message of joy to actually expressing joy out in the park so to speak.”

The church is also celebrating 164 years of service to the community of Barrington this year. They hope dozens flock to the party this Sunday to take part in the festivities.

“The festival is really for anybody who wants to come and socialize and get a hug and a smile and a drink. It’s really just for anybody who wants to come and be a part of the community.”
