AREA BUSINESSES JOIN WELLNESS PLACE TO OFFER SUPPORT FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH IN OCTOBER

In honor of  Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, four area businesses are joining forces with Wellness Place of Palatine, Ill., to raise additional funds and awareness for breast cancer programs and services. Brighton Collectibles at Deer Park, Pl8 Simply Asian restaurant in Barrington, TL’s Four Seasons in Bartlett, and the Dynamic Professional Women’s Network of Palatine have each created a special program to further emphasize the importance of providing support to those experiencing this life-changing disease.

As part of a decade-long commitment to breast cancer charities, Brighton Collectibles has created their annual “Power of Pink / POP” bracelet for 2012 that will be available beginning September 28th through the month of October. This limited-edition bracelet is a classic design with a dangling heart charm and pink ribbon, with touches of light rose Swarovski crystals. The bracelet is reversible and can be worn with pink-accented links or as an all-silver accessory. New this year, Brighton Deer Park has expanded the POP line to include a variety of items with similar donations benefiting Wellness Place. To kick off this opportunity, from September 28-30, any purchase from the Brighton Deer Park location that includes a POP item will result in an additional 10% of total purchase as a donation back to the organization. For more information, visit www.brighton.com or call 847-550-0600.

On Wednesday, October 17, the Dynamic Professional Women’s Network of Palatine is hosting a “Pink Party with a Purpose” at the Lamplighter Inn Tavern & Grill from 5 - 8 p.m. The event will offer educational information about area cancer resources as well as networking, pink hair extensions, raffles, and door prizes. Tickets are $10 and include a specialty drink, pizza and dessert. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to Wellness Place. For more information call 847-991-2420.

Breast cancer strikes not just the elderly and middle-aged but thousands in their 20s and 30s. According to the American Cancer Society, this year alone, an estimated 226,870 women and men will be diagnosed and nearly 40,000 women in the U.S. alone will die from breast cancer. Raising awareness about available and free, counseling, support and education services is essential to helping the thousands of women and families from our community affected by this life-changing disease.
