Flint Creek Savanna Turns 25

Citizens for Conservation celebrating anniversary of Flint Creek Savanna restoration project.

Flint Creek Savanna is an award-winning restoration that covers nearly a mile of creeks course, four oak and hickory groves and acres of restored wetlands and prairie.

The Citizens for Conservation is celebrating 25 years of work to restore the area with a day full of activities.

Activities will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at CFC Headquarters, 459 W. Highway 22, Lake Barrington. A native folklore storyteller, a folksinger, a giant soap bubbler, a nature scavenger hunt and kids’ nature crafts are among the family fun. All ages are invited.

The schedule of activities:

1 p.m.:  Proclamation, Village of Lake Barrington

1:20 to 2:30 p.m.:  Prairie tours start every 15 minutes (small groups of 5-6; walks take about 45 min.)

1:30 to 3 p.m.:  Will Kruger, folksinger, songwriter

1:30 to 3 p.m.:  L.L. Bean "Talking Trash" exhibit

2 to 3:30 p.m.:  Glowby, giant soap bubbler

3:30 to 4:45 p.m.:  Jeannie Hanson, folklore storyteller

1:30 to 3:30 p.m.:  Kids' nature crafts, (bookmark and scavenger hunt)

1 to 4 p.m.:  CFC exhibit table

1 to 5 p.m.:  Nature photo contest: Voting by visitors
