Keeping Teens Healthy a Big Cause for Local Parents

Local program aims to keep teens healthy in the Barrington area.

I often write about adventures with raising young children in the Barrington area, but a Barrington mom recently brought it to my attention about the parenting of teens in our community.

Jeanne Varwig is the chair of   Annual Gala this year, slated to be held Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort. The Gala is benefitting the Healthy Teens program at the hospital, which aims to invoke healthy lifestyle choices early in life to develop a productive and safe future.

One of the more popular inititatives of the Healthy Teens program is EKG screening for teens.   since sudden cardiac arrest is a silent killer for many teens each year.

Other programs include Teen Mental Health, Coordinated Approach to Childhood Health - an awareness about nutrition and physical activity and Operation Click, an initative to get teens to wear their seat belts.

I appreciated Jeanne introducing me to this program and how it will eventually benefit all of us with young children, as well as all of the teens in our community.
