Local Non-Profit to Hold "Blazing Saddles Boot Ball"

Event to take place on Saturday, April 16 to benefit Barrington Youth & Family Services.

Get ready for some boot-stompin' fun and raise funds for Barrington Youth & Family Services (BYFS), a local non-profit.

The Barrington Youth & Family Services Auxiliary is inviting the community to attend its western- themed “Blazing Saddles Boot Ball” to help raise funds to support the agency’s family counseling, youth outreach, and community prevention programs. The event will be held at Barrington Hills Country Club on Saturday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m.

BYFS Auxiliary member Amy Wickstrom said explained the variety of youth outreach programs the organization offers. " We offer a variety of youth outreach programs to help District 220 students develop their social and academic skills," she said. "Student participants are referred to programs by school counselors and teachers and can take advantage of the services at no (or minimal) cost. Some of these programs include the Peer Leadership Program, which focuses on bullying, Summer Soccer & Folkloric Dance Program which runs during the summer months and provides formal sports instruction and social-emotional learning activities for area youth, and Pathways Mentoring Program that pairs middle school students with high-functioning BHS mentors in a structured setting to promote social and self-management skills development."

More than 150 people are expected to attend the event, with 100 percent of the proceeds going toward the counseling, youth outreach and prevention programs BYFS offers Barrington area families.

Due to the economic constraints of the last several years, many of the entities that generously supported BYFS in the past have had to reduce or discontinue their donations. Their goal is to raise approximately $100,000, which is a bit more than previous years and will help make up some of their budget shortfalls.
