Patch Passport: Kid-Friendly Fun in Barrington

Take advantage of time with your kids and get out and enjoy these hot spots. Your Patch Passport gives you options for great local spots for kid-friendly fun.

Nestled in a 45 acre plot of land in the village of Barrington is the crown jewel in Barrington's park system - Citizen's Park.  Formerly the home of the Jewel Tea Company, the precursor to the current grocery store chain by the same name,  the land was obtained by the Barrington Park District in 2002.  It was developed as a park to create an open space for all ages to enjoy.  The park officially opened to the public in 2007.

Citizens Park has numerous features including the Pepper Family Treehouse, play equipment for kids, basketball and tennis courts, an ice skating rink in the winter, a .9 mile walking and biking trail and buildings and shelters that can house events. It also serves as the entrance to the Cuba Marsh connection trail, connecting walkers, runners and bikers to the Cuba Marsh Forest Preserve, where you can "enjoy three miles of crushed-gravel trail through open areas of gently rolling hills that feature views of the marsh and scattered groves of trees."

Many community events are held in the park like the DASH to Cure Diabetes run, Art in the Park and a weekly concert series in the Robert Soule Amphitheater during the summer months.  On a nice day, you can see all ages of Barrington citizens enjoying the beautiful scenery in the park.
