Social Media Connects Moms

Use of Facebook is popular among local moms.

As I prepare to head back to my hometown for my high school class reunion, I realize that this reunion probably would not have been possible if it were not for Facebook. At least it would have not been possible in the ability to reach out to so many members of my class. All communication in coordinating the reunion was done via Facebook and it has been fun reconnecting with my old classmates via this social media outlet.

In taking a very unscientific poll among moms in Barrington, it appears most moms spend an average of 30 minutes on Facebook each day, mainly catching up on new posts, pictures and messages.

Some stay-at-home moms commented that Facebook was an outlet for them each day – a connection to the world without having to leave their homes. Many said it was their “guilty pleasure,” spending time looking up old friends to see what they are doing now.

Several of my friends update their Facebook posts constantly throughout the day. There is no need for me to call and ask what's up with them – I just simply have to log on my Facebook account to see what they are up to and I can get an hour-to-hour update. I like the promotions that come via Facebook that save me money on shopping and services. I know many moms like it to post pictures of their kids. No matter the use, Facebook is definitely a daily habit and hit among moms!
