The Second City Comes to Barrington High School

World-renowned Second City comedy group is taking the stage at Barrington High School next week, all for a good cause.

Dash to Cure Diabetes is presenting the show Friday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. The money raised from ticket sales will benefit the American Diabetes Association, and help pay for diabetic children to attend Triangle D Kids summer camp in Volo, Ill.

“It provides kids a traditional summer camp, but surrounds them with pediatric endocrinologists and educators to help manage their blood sugars effectively and more independently,” Karl Fruecht, President of Dash to Cure Diabetes said.

The camp is an opportunity for kids afflicted with the disease to get their first taste of life without constant parental monitoring; something many of them are unfortunately tied to due to the frequent blood sugar checks.

Camp Triangle D allows them to learn how to do these things on their own, but still keeps medical personnel on hand 24 hours per day. While many diabetic children dream of going to camp, not all of them can afford it. The goal of The Second City fundraiser is to ensure all kids are able to attend.

“The average cost for one child to attend camp for the week is $800,” Fruecht said.  “We want to make sure that kids from low income families who can’t afford the tuition to go are able to go.”

Tickets to the performance are $30 for adults and $15 for high school students. Fruecht described the show as “PG-13” so parents should use discretion when bringing younger children.
