Underaged Drinking Panel Discussion

The Barrington Area Drug Prevention Coalition presents Strong Parents = Strong Youth.

The Barrington Area Drug Prevention Coalition will host a panel discussion at Barrington High School Auditorium on Tuesday April 26 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. called Strong Parents = Strong Youth. Underaged drinking will be the topic addressed by experts in varying fields associated with this the subject.

The evening’s roster will be:

  • Master of Ceremonies Leslie Luther-Jeschke, Barrington Area United Way, Founding member, former president and current member of Barrington Area Drug Prevention Coalition
  • Dr. Tom Leonard, Barrington 220 Superintendent - Illinois Youth Survey Results
  • Dr. William Watson, Medical Director-Trauma Services, Advocate Condell
  • Medical Center- Underage Drinking and Brain Development
  • Dr. Heather Hale, The Child, Adolescent and Family Center- Underage Drinking and Mental Health
  • Judge Christopher Stride, 19th Judicial Circuit Court- Legal Risks Related to Hosting Parties (presiding judge on the Hutsell/Deerfield case)
  • Jerry Libit, Barrington Chief of Police- Local Perspective on Underaged Drinking
  • BHS Students Tara Martino, Kyle Kennicott, and Erika Pauley- Student Stories on Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle
  • Sue Randall, Barrington 220 Parent- Parent Perspective
  • Ms. Gabrielle Johnson - Counselor & Life Coach, Barrington Youth and Family Services (BYFS)

The discussions will focus on the 6-12 grade children and strives to empower parents by providing the most current research on the topic. The goal is to give parents confidence and knowledge when dealing with underaged drinking in their own families.  The timing of the event is meant to coincide with prom and graduation season, a period notorious for this kind of behavior.

The fact-based program has been designed with a foundation in medical and mental health research, legal opinions, real life stories, and parent education.
