Volunteers Needed to Choose Winners of Fatherhood Essay Contest

Help read entries in Chicago White Sox 2013 Illinois Fatherhood Essay Contest at St. Anne Church in Barrington.

 

Approximately 15,000 children have recently written essays on the theme “What My Father Means to Me” as part of the 2013 Chicago White Sox Illinois Fatherhood Essay Contest sponsored by Illinois Fatherhood Initiative (IFI).   

One hundred, fifty-six essayists (12 per grades K-12) and their dads will be recognized in May at a Chicago White Sox baseball game.  The culmination of the essay contest will occur June 11, 2013 when 12 essayists and their fathers (three dads, three stepdads, three granddads, and three father-figures) will be recognized at the 16th Annual IFI Fatherhood Dinner Celebration – which will be held at the Union League Club of Chicago.  John Kass is one of this year’s honorary dads.

Volunteers are needed to help to evaluate and help select the 156 statewide essay winners.  Each volunteer will receive lunch and a variety of offers for activities to do with dad.  Volunteers also will receive invitations to the May and June celebrations recognizing the essayists and their dads.
