"What My Father Means to Me" Essay Contest Volunteers Needed

The Illinois Fatherhood Initiative is sponsoring the event and needs volunteers to judge more than 10,000 essays submitted.

Volunteers are needed to help select the winners of the Chicago White Sox 2013 Illinois Fatherhood Essay Contest.

About 10,000 children have written essays on the theme “What My Father Means to me” as part of the contest sponsored by the Illinois Fatherhood Initiative (IFI). The 156 winners in grades K-12 and their dads will be honored in May at a White Sox baseball game. The culmination of the essay contest will occur June 11, 2013 when 12 essayists and their fathers (three dads, three stepdads, three granddads, and three father-figures) will be recognized at the 16th Annual IFI Fatherhood Dinner Celebration – which will be held at the Union League Club of Chicago. John Kass is one of this year’s honorary dads.
