Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble Spring Concert

Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble invites the community to join us for our 2011 Spring Concert on June 17 at 7:00 pm and June 18 at 2:00 pm at Barrington High School.  The concert features Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble members and student dancers from Barrington Dance Academy in three one act ballets.

Scenes from Childhood     This original ballet, choreographed by Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble’s artistic director Mary Brennan, depicts the magic and excitement of day to day life seen through a child’s eyes.  Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble (BYDE) dancers appear on stage with talented young Barrington Dance Academy students.

BYDE’s Gaite creates a scene in a Parisian restaurant filled with a frazzled chef, haughty waiters, saucy scullery maids, and spirited, flirtatious can can dancers.  Set to Jacques Offenbach’s belle epoch score, choreographer Mary Brennan recreates Parisian nightlife with wonderful flair.

BYDE is pleased to bring the time-honored ballet Graduation Ball to the stage.  This lighthearted comedy has been performed by ballet companies all over the world since its premiere in 1940 by the Original Ballet Russe.  Resident choreographer Greg Merriman has expertly restaged this ballet that follows the happenings of a Graduation Ball for Viennese young women in a boarding school to which cadets from a neighboring military academy are invited.  At first, the girls and boys are timid, but soon the ball turns into a raucous evening of flirtations and love letters.   As with all good things, too soon, the evening comes to an end….a lovely memory.
