Local Artists Showcased in Third Annual Art in the Park

Barrington Cultural Arts Center will showcase the work of 52 local artists at Citizen's Park on May 22.

Art lovers will have the chance to check out a multitude of artwork from 52 area artists this weekend.

May 22 marks the third annual Art in the Park, held by Barrington Cultural Arts Center (BCAC), a non-profit organization for local artists.

“We’re a group of local artists organizing ourselves to try and increase opportunities for all of us to sell art and do art together,” Susan Russo, BCAC Chairperson said.

BCAC has partnered with the Barrington Park District to hold the event showcasing local artwork in Citizen’s Park.  Pieces crafted by 52 local artists will be for sale during the event. There will also be eight musical acts performing on stage, children’s art activities and even a live spray-painting demonstration.

“Everything is for sale…so there will be jewelry artists, fabric artists, mosaic artists, spray painting, oils and pastels,” Russo explained. “There will be some people who do clay sculptures and garden art.”

Event goers won’t go hungry. Frantonio’s Italian Deli & Café will be there selling pizza, pasta, sandwiches and other Italian delicacies.

Art vendors with years of experience aren’t the only one’s selling at Art in the Park. Although the entry period has ended, novice artists are more than welcome to set up a booth.

“We encourage anybody to come out and sell their art. From beginners all the way up to consummate artists who make money from their art and make a living that way,” Russo said. “It’s an opportunity for everyone to get involved. We don’t turn anyone away from selling their art.”

Art in the Park 2011 will take place at Citizen’s Park on Sunday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
