Heinen's of Barrington recognizes BHS students who contributed artwork for reusable shopping bags

On Wednesday, Sept. 26, students from the Fine Arts program at Barrington High School picked up a shopping bag at the new Heinen’s Fine Foods of Barrington. Instead of strolling the aisles to select gourmet grocery items, the students were admiring their own artwork, which decorates the red-and-black reusable bag with scenes and icons from the Barrington area. The six students were among 15 from the high school who contributed their unique illustrations to the eco-friendly bag design last spring, even before the new Heinen’s of Barrington opened in the Shops at Flint Creek.

Their Sept. 26 visit to the store will celebrated a partnership that began last school year and continues with a special recognition of the students’ creative contribution. Beginning Sept. 27 through Oct. 31, from the sale of every reusable bag designed by the students, Heinen’s of Barrington will donate $1 to the Fine Arts program at Barrington High School. The store’s general manager, Neal Farren, welcomed the students, who were accompanied by their teachers and Grant Sahr, chairperson of the BHS Fine Arts Department, Steve McWilliams, principal of Barrington High School, and Dr. Tom Leonard, superintendent of the Barrington 220 School District. On behalf of Heinen's, Farren presented each of the students and teachers with their own shopping bag filled with several gifts from the store.
