Noon Rotary Club of Barrington holds second-annual sock-hop fundraiser Oct. 6 featuring legendary disc jockey Dick Biondi

Barrington Noon Rotary's second-annual sock-hop with legendary DJ Dick Biondi is Oct. 6 to benefit Barrington Rotary Charities, Barrington Youth & Family Services and CareerPlace.

The Barrington Noon Rotary Club’s 2012 fundraiser – presented by Barrington Rotary Charities on Saturday, Oct. 6 – will feature a sock hop with nationally known disc jockey and legendary Chicago radio personality Dick Biondi. A member of the Radio Hall of Fame Top 40, Biondi will provide the evening’s entertainment, playing music from the 1950s, ‘60s and early ‘70s. The Oct. 6 event will be from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at the Barrington Park District’s Langendorf Recreational Facility (235 Lions Dr.). Food and drink are available at 6:30 p.m. with music and dancing from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person available at www.BarringtonRotarySockHop.com.

This is the second annual event following a successful 2011 fundraiser, which netted more than $30,000 for local charities. This year, Barrington Youth and Family Services and CareerPlace will receive the proceeds. Barrington Youth and Family Services is a community-based, non-profit social service agency, providing comprehensive family counseling, youth outreach and prevention programming for local youth and their families. CareerPlace is also a longstanding Barrington-area non-profit that helps unemployed professionals achieve success in the job search process.

The Oct. 6 event will feature a heavy Hors d' Oeuvres dinner with auctions and raffles, including items such as sports and event tickets, electronics, vacation packages, and local “staycation” attractions. A live auction will feature larger items, and attendees are invited to purchase raffle tickets to be eligible for grand prizes of $2,500 and $5,000. Participants are encouraged but not required to dress as if they are attending a high-school dance of a bygone era, wearing poodle skirts and saddle shoes for example.
