14U Northwest Crushers defeat Lake Forest Scouts in Championship Game

In a close league championship game played Tuesday evening at Plote Field in Lake in the Hills, the Northwest Crushers from Hoffman Estates defeated the Lake Forest Scouts. Both teams play in Northern Illinois Competitive Baseball League. (NICBL)

The Northern Illinois Competitive Baseball League is a full-time travel baseball league serving the 5 Northwestern Illinois counties of McHenry, Cook, Lake, Kane, and DuPage. The league's mission is to provide a safe, centrally organized and highly competitive environment for travel baseball players as a means to prepare the players for high school baseball and to ensure the health and safety of the players in a consistent manner to which they will be accustomed moving forward in their baseball careers. Currently the league operates 22 teams with approximately 270 players competing each season.

The Crushers had a three run lead going in the bottom of the 7th evening.  The Lake Forest Scouts rallied to load the bases but a pop fly to second base ended the game.  The final score was 11-8.

The team is made up of players from Barrington, Bensenville, Hoffman Estates, Palatine, and Streamwood.

Head Coach Ed Korus, not usually at a loss for words, said after the game, “How can words explain what we've experienced over the past week.....  It’s indescribable!  I am so happy for the boys. They’ve worked so hard over the past 6.5 months and really deserve this.”
