Stations of the Dream Commemorates Civil Rights Movement

Barrington Area Ministerial Association sponsors experiential journey into the mission of Dr. Martin Luther King.

 

The Barrington Area Ministerial Association will hold the 3rd annual Stations of the Dream, at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 15, at the Chapel, 180 N. Hawthorne, Barrington Hills.

The experiential journey will allow attendees the opportunity to walk where Civil Rights heroes walked and to experience some of the events that led up to the Civil Rights act of 1964.

 See actual news clips of the Freedom Riders’ bus, the segregated Woolworth’s lunch counter, the march to Selma, the rubble of the 16th Avenue Baptist Church, and President Johnson signing the bill with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. looking on. 

See the power of solidarity through dance, and hear voices of today’s children raised in song and words that speak with the weight and wisdom of history. There will be performances by the Children’s Choir of Holy Family Lutheran School in Chicago and Bataille Academie of the Danse.

The Barrington Area Ministerial Association invites residents to recall events of 50 years ago, in order to celebrate the progress and changes since then. 

The event also includes a child-centered room filled with activities, crafts, stories and game time; all centered around Dr. King’s life. The Children’s Room will be monitored by trained staff of the Chapel and be available to all children under the ago of 10. Parents are welcome to make the choice as to the content of the program and their child’s readiness.

 Admission to Stations of the Dream is $5 and can be purchased in advance.
