Winter Storm Watch in Effect Today

How much snow could fall today?

Another blast of winter weather could be headed our way.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for this afternoon and evening for part of northern Illinois, including, Cook Lake and McHenry Counties. 

The advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. to midnight. The National Weather Service is predicting rain that will turn to heavy snow throughout much of the area. 

Some areas of northern Cook County could receive as much as three to five inches of snow.

"Total snow accumulations will vary widely across Cook County," the adivsory states. "Across northern Cook County three to five inches are expected." 

The Barrington area should receive 1 to 3 inches of snow Friday night, with rain falling early this evening.

Some areas of McHenry and Lake Counties are expected to receive snowfall of up to six inches.
