ACE Hardware Coming to Barrington

The new hardware store will open in late 2012.

The village of Barrington will be home to a new ACE Hardware store later this year.

In a press release, Economic and Community Development Director Peggy Blanchard said Barrington resident John Brown is working with ACE to open the new store at 906 S. Northwest Highway, in the Fisher Nut building. Fisher Nut has been planning to close that location for some time.

Brown has been a Barrington resident since 1989. He has retail store management and merchandising experience. After considering owning and operating a hardware store for many years, Brown said, “now is the time and opportunity to meet the community needs for hardware products in Barrington. I hope to fulfill the demand and expectations of the resident to provide convenience and products for your home and business.”

“We listened to our residents and have diligently pursued several hardware store operators,” Blanchard said. “It is great to finally know that our efforts and the ability of Mr. Brown to pursue this business endeavor will be an overwhelming asset for Barrington.”

Brown is working with the village to seek approval of a special use for an outdoor storage area, fence height, and signage exceptions and the placement of an above ground propane tank. The requests will be heard before the Plan Commission on Aug. 7. Final approval will be considered by the Board of Trustees on Aug. 20.
