Big Savings at Local Children's Consignment Sale

Upcoming children's clothing and equipment consignment sale is expected to be the largest to date in Barrington.

Growing Cents of Style, a seasonal consignment sale offering boutique and designer children's clothing (sizes newborn - size 16), shoes, accessories and baby gear, is slated to take place March 3rd - 6th at The Shops at Flint Creek, 500 N. Hough Street in Barrington.

Started in 2006 by two area mothers,  Growing Cents of Style (GCOS) has continued to grow larger every year.

"Our mission is to offer other mothers a way to earn some extra money for their families and to help shoppers find the children's clothing they desire most at a fraction of the cost," said owner Jenny Welsh.  "Each sale gets bigger than the last.  We started with 40 consignors at our first sale and are now looking to have over 230 for our upcoming spring sale with over 14,000 items to choose from." "It's the consignors and shoppers that keep us coming back.  It's the woman who is eight months pregnant who does not have any family in the area that thanks us for the opportunity to be able to find the items she wants for her new baby that she wouldn't be able to otherwise afford."

Some of the most popular brands of clothing that are sold during a Growing Cents of Style sale include Ralph Lauren, Mini Boden, Gap, Gymboree, Baby Lulu and Hanna Andersson.  They expect to have around 500 shoppers during the four day sale.

Giving back has been an important part of the sale from the very beginning. Consignors have the option to either pick up their unsold items or donate them.  Christopher House, St. Anne's Resale shops and WINGS have all benefited from these donations in the past.   They are also are working hard to promote Hope 4 Bridget, a local foundation raising money to fight Batten's disease.   They accept donations on behalf of the foundation and sell these items at the sale, with 100% of the proceeds going back to the foundation.

With all of the financial demands on families these days, this sale may be a good option to outfit your children.

"It is sustainable shopping at it's finest," Welsh added. "It's a great way to pass on clothing, earn some money for them and then turn around and buy what you need for your children who are continuing to outgrown their clothing at warp speed!"
