Support or Parody? Romney Outsells Obama at Marin Halloween Store

Presidential candidate disguises are among the top costumes for trick-or-treating. Get ready for Halloween fun at the Town Center on Sunday and Patch costume contests.

Who's scarier: Gov. Mitt Romney or President Barack Obama?

"Romney is selling crazy. We're selling twice as many Romney costumes as Obama, which is kinda surprising," said Kristen, assistant manager at Spirit Halloween Gallery in the Town Center at Corte Madera. "Mitt's selling with both adults and kids. I don't know if that's for a parody or if they support Romney."

Last-minute shoppers were looking for the perfect costume Thursday at Spirit Halloween Gallery. Boys and girls are picking a lot of the traditional Halloween costumes, according to Kristen. Witches, princesses, superheroes and especially ninjas are popular with the children.

Kristen advises customers to focus on comfortable, rather than fashionable, costumes. "I see a lot of people getting short costumes and I think they're going to be cold on Halloween," she said.

She also suggests giving the children flashlights or lighted bracelets when they go trick-or-treating at night.

The store is asking customers to domate to the Spirit of Children celebration, a Halloween party for patients at Children's Hospital of Oakland.

Town Center, meanwhile, invites all the young ghouls, goblins and heroes to join in the annual Trick-or-Treat Day on Sunday, Oct. 28, from noon to 3 p.m. Children of all ages will have the exciting opportunity to fill up their bags with treats and goodies from all participating Town Center merchants. All kids, with or without costume, are given complimentary trick-or-treat bag (while supplies last.)

"Trick-or-Treat Day at Town Center is one of the most fun events we hold for families every year,” said Stan Hoffman, general manager of Town Center. “It’s a safe environment for parents and kids to collect great treats and it’s also very entertaining for our shoppers to see all the kids dressed up in their costumes.”

Remember, all adults and children are eligible to enter Patch's Best Halloween Costume in America contest. Entries will be accepted through Nov. 1. Let's not forget about the pets. Whether it's the family dog, cat, or even a snake, they're eligible for the Best Pet Halloween Costume in Marin. Get those photos to us by Sunday, Oct. 28 for a chance to win!
