Couture Cupcake Café Opening in Nearby Palatine

Couture Cupcake Café will host a grand opening celebration in downtown Palatine Friday.

Life is Palatine is about to get sweeter.

Couture Cupcake Café, which has been open in Kildeer for nearly two years, is opening a new store in downtown Palatine.

A grand opening is scheduled for 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 inside Rock N Roll a la mode, located at 45 N. Bothwell, just two blocks east of the Metra station, across from the Lamplighter Inn.

Baking started off as a hobby for Couture Cupcake Café owner Cathi Volante, of Lake Zurich, but became her passion—and career.

Volante decided to leave her PR and marketing job of 18 years to start her own baking business after being asked by the Food Network to submit an audition tape for its popular "Cupcake Wars" show in 2012.

"I'm still waiting," said Volante, on whether she has been invited to compete on the show. Fingers are crossed though—the Food Network called last week, but there's no final word yet.

In addition to opening a Palatine location, Volante is opening a store in downtown Wilmette as well. Her goal is to become a national franchise.

"I wouldn’t say I left my career," said Volante. "I would say I am marketing for myself now, building my brand like I have done for so many others. I love decorating. Now I have the best of both worlds."

Baked with style

Couture Cupcake Café specializes in handcrafted cupcakes and cakes with style. They also offer gluten-free, vegan, organic and sugar-free cakes, cupcakes and pies.

"Who wouldn’t want to eat a warm, fresh cupcake named 'Jimmy Choo,' 'Chanel,' 'PB XXL' or my No. 1 seller, 'Heavenly Swine,' a bacon filled buttermilk cupcake with a maple buttercream?" said Volante.

Throughout the winter months, Couture Cupcake Café will host weekly nights for teens and adults featuring karaoke, board games, video game competitions, movie nights, food fests, cake and cupcake decorating classes and more.

"We also support our athletes, students and faculty," said Volante. "Show your school ID or wear your team uniform for 10 percent off everything."

Following the grand opening, Palatine store hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
