Free Job Search Seminar Teaches Networking Tips

CareerPlace of Barrington will host the free workshop on Oct. 20.

Virtually everyone agrees networking for jobs is the most successful approach people can take to opening potential employment doors and discovering career opportunities.  But what do you do if you think you are no good at networking?

Jody Eriksen will help “nervous networkers” and “self conscious job seekers” learn how to recognize and apply their natural abilities and instincts to build their understanding, skills, self confidence, and personal connections, Thursday, Oct. 20, from 7-9 p.m. at CareerPlace, 600 Hart Rd., Suite 275, Barrington.

The free “natural networking session” is open to anyone seeking a job.

Individuals who have taken the session say the simple, positive, soft sell networking approach opens doors, develops skills, puts them more at ease, and creates opportunities that they did not realize could exist.

“We all want to be outgoing, naturally social, optimistic, helpful and popular” Eriksen said. “That can be especially difficult when you are under the gun, looking for work or job leads, cringe at a negative response, don’t think you have any good contacts, perhaps are a little shy, fear you can’t return a favor, and don’t want to seem like a needy ‘mooch’.”

Eriksen helps individuals broaden their job search possibilities using ‘ready to go’ scripts, easy conversation starters, and handy tools and ideas for creating more casual networking opportunities so individuals can advance their job search.
