Meatheads BHS Burger Battle Pits Football Players, Cheerleaders

Who created the tastiest burger? You decide.

Will it be the Bronco Burger? Or the “Billy” Burger?

The gauntlet has been thrown between Barrington High School football team and the cheerleading squad in the Meatheads’ Burger Battle.

Customer can decide who created the best burger by ordering their favorite at Meatheads Burgers & Fries, 500 N. Hough St. Both burgers will be promoted in the store and available on the menu starting Monday, Aug. 26 through Sept. 22.

The Barrington restaurant is donating 10 percent of every burger sold to either the football team or the cheerleader squad,  said Joe Sanders,  director of marketing. Whoever wins the competition will have their burger on the menu throughout football season, he said.

The Bronco burger is a 1/3-pound certified Angus beef with American cheese, bacon, Cajun fries, ketchup lettuce and grilled onion.

The “Billy” Burger is a 1/3-pound certified Angus beef with provolone cheese, bacon, kechapeño, buffalo ranch, lettuce and raw onion.

Meatheads regularly supports youth sports teams.

BHS was looking for ideas to benefit the school’s sports teams and Meatheads thought it would be a fun to have a competition between the football team and cheerleaders to see who could create the best burger, said Joe Sanders, Meatheads marketing director.

“So far, it’s been great. The football team and cheerleaders seem to be very excited,” Sanders said, who hopes to see the excitement within the community too.

BHS football players and cheerleaders visited Meatheads a few weeks ago to work with Sanders and chefs making burgers coming up with unique burgers.

“They had a ball experimenting with different burgers and being creative. They also made up with the names,” keeping in mind their target market, he said.

Meatheads opened about a month ago in Barrington. The restaurant has been doing well and Meatheads has been overwhelmed by the response of the community, Sanders said. “Everyone seems to be embracing our culture,” he said.
