Whole Foods invites customers to nominate first Community Support Day beneficiary.

the world's leading natural and organic foods supermarket, will open a new 40,000-square-foot store in Kildeer on Wednesday, March 6. The much-anticipated store, located at 20281 North Rand Road, will provide the Kildeer community with great-tasting, high-quality, natural and organic foods in a convenient and fresh contemporary setting. The move will be a relocation of the company's Palatine store, which has been part of the Whole Foods Market family since 1998.

Community Involvement

"Our ties to the Palatine community are something we are extremely proud to bring along with us to the new Kildeer store" states Store Team Leader Floyd Staine, who has been with the store since its origin as a Fresh Fields in 1993. For the Palatine store's final community contribution, a surplus of food staples will be donated to Community Keepers, an organization which helps distribute to area food pantries.

To honor their store opening, Whole Foods Market is inviting customers to help choose a beneficiary for the Kildeer store's first Community Support Day. Community members can nominate organizations by visiting the Kildeer store Facebook page and later voting in the store during opening week. In addition, Whole Foods Market will continue its support of the Palatine Opportunity Center through its One Dime at a Time program, where customers in Palatine, and later Kildeer, can opt to donate their reusable bag discount to the local nonprofit.

The store's grand opening celebration will be two-fold: As the company closes its doors in Palatine, customers, community partners and team members (both past and present) will be welcomed to join Store Team Leader, Floyd Staine in toasting the end of an era and placing tokens from the store's 15-year history into a time capsule that will be later buried at the new Kildeer store location.

"It is extremely important to those of us who have been part of the Palatine store legacy to remember our roots, including all those who have worked with us, shopped with us, and helped us grow into this exciting new location" says Staine. On March 6 at 8:45 a.m., Whole Foods Market will welcome the community and local businesses to Kildeer for a bread-breaking ceremony. Mayor Nandia Black will join the festivities, including a tree planting and burial of the Palatine time capsule, as well as a pancake breakfast and entertainment for all to enjoy until the store opens its doors for the first time at 9 a.m.
