Duties of the Bridal Party

Everything you needed to know about bridal parties before asking friends and family.

Since the bridal party is one of the most crucial pieces of your wedding day, other than the bride and groom of course, it is advised to choose with each person with caution.

The Best Man
If you’ve seen The Hangover, then you understand the tragedies that can arise by not carefully selecting the perfect Best Man—which may include waking up with zoo animals in your Vegas hotel room (don’t ask). Essentially, he is the guy responsible for organizing the groom’s night, so choose wisely! The Best Man is usually the groom’s friend or a close relative whose official job role is to help the groom prepare for the wedding, mostly by calming the groom’s nerves. It is also he who witnesses the signing of the marriage certificate and delivers one of the most important (and often most entertaining) toasts of the day.

The Matron of Honor
The Matron of Honor traditionally holds a bit more responsibility than the Best Man. Usually a close female friend or family member of the bride, the Matron of Honor acts as the chief bridesmaid and assists the bride-to-be with all wedding plans – from selecting the dress to hosting the bachelorette party.

The Groomsmen
Often a group of the groom’s best friends, these male attendants help celebrate in the bucks party as well as on the wedding day.

The Bridesmaids
The role of the bridesmaids is to support the bride on her special day and in all other aspects of wedding preparation, including the organization of the bachelorette party and bridal shower. Basically, they take care of everything that the Matron of Honor cannot, or would rather not, plan alone.

The Flower Girls and Ring Bearer Boys

These precious children draw the biggest smiles and add the inevitable “cute factor” to the ceremony. They are often nieces, nephews, young cousins, family friends or perhaps children of the bride and/or groom. Traditionally, the flower girl carries flowers and sprinkles the aisle with petals at the start of the ceremony, while the ring bearer holds the pillow—on which the rings are attached.

When choosing your bridal party, keep in mind it’s your wedding, and you should select only the people whose company you would enjoy after a long day with blistering feet. Also, try to pick people you do not need to worry about offending; there is no reason to add unneeded stress. Most importantly, remember that the bigger you make your bridal party, the bigger you better make your budget. Thankfully at Christina Currie Events, Inc., we can help you keep within your budget without having to compromise on your bridal party!
