Dominic is 'Really Happy to be Back' at Hough School

Barrington's Hough School Principal Lori Wilcox said the students and teachers are overjoyed to have him back as well.

Hough Street School students got a big surprise today as they gathered for the school play "Romeo and Juliet." Fifth-grader Dominic Szymanski returned to school for the first time since he was hit by a Metra train on March 15.

Dominic thanked his classmates for the cards and letters and told them how happy he was to back. Watch the video clip.

The students had an inkling that Dominic would return soon as he had been skyping with some of his classmates, but they didn't know when.

"It's been something we've been waiting for and eagerly anticipating. This is such a joyful day," said Hough Street Principal Lori Wilcox.

Dominic received homebound tutoring from the district while he was at home. There are only a few weeks left of the school year. He is expected to attend at least part-time. Dominic will advance to Station Middle School next year.
