Numerous Runners from Lake Zurich, Barrington Ran in Boston Marathon

Reports are coming in on area runners who were at the Boston Marathon, which was bombed Monday.

Update, April 16, 9:49 a.m.

Barrington 220 art teacher Tom Root ran the Boston Marathon and is being reported to be fine, according to Jeff Arnett, communications director Barrington 220 school district.

Tom also reported that Barrington area runners Tim Mcauliff and Mallory Meyer are fine.

Barrington runner Laura Morrissey said she finished the race 15 to 20 minutes before the explosions, the Daily Herald reports.

A Lake Zurich runner who was registered for the Boston Marathon did not run because of an injury. Elizabeth Pitcher responded to the Lake Zurich Facebook page request for updates on runners.

Liz Tambourine Pitcher I am one of Lake Zurich residents that is listed as the Boston marathon runner. Due to injury I missed the race, I guess it was a blessing in disguise. We are all safe. Thanks for thinking of me and my family.

Update April 16, 8:15 a.m.

South Barrington Boston Marathon runner Andrea Kleinjan is being reported as OK on the Alpine Runners Facebook page:

Jeannette Legge I had finished and was still on Boylston St when I heard explosions and saw smoke. Cell phone and train services were immediately shut down, so had to walk out of city to get to my brother's car. I heard from Andrea K and she is fine; she was in wave 2 and finished much earlier. She's on her way home tonight. Prayers to those who were impacted by this tragedy.

said she finished 15 minutes before the explosions. She said she was glad she ran fast, on Facebook.

Kathy Lundin Kompass Mr. Scaletta from Hawthorn Woods is okay per his daughter.

Update, April 15, 4:28 p.m.

Through the Lake Zurich Patch Facebook page, we've learned that Lake Zurich resident Jean D. Bean's daughter Kaytee Ruck was at the race and that she is OK.

Jean D Bean Our daughter was on the same block when the explosions went off - It is total chaos, but she's safe.

Iris Lau Truong My husband and his family were 300 feet from explosion. He said people were running, screaming, crying, people with missing limbs. They are frantically trying to get to the airport now. Thankful that my husband and his family are okay, but my heart is breaking for those who are not.

Carole Clemente I’m happy to hear they are okay. My neighbors husband is running in this too and he finished okay. Praying for all those hurt.

Update, April 15, 4:11 p.m.

There were numerous residents from Barrington and Lake Zurich area who participated in the Boston Marathon as well as runners associated with Lake Zurich's Alpine Runners. According to the Boston Marathon website, area runners included:

South Barrington-- Andrea Kleinjan

Lake Zurich--Elizabeth Pitcher

Update, 3:11 p.m.: Time Magazine is reporting that two people have been killed and 22 are injured as a result of the explosions at the Boston Marathon.

Original story: The Boston Globe is reporting that there were two explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

According to CNN, the explosions injured at least a half-dozen people. The explosions occurred a few seconds apart at about 2:45 p.m. Eastern, according to CNN.

The Boston Marathon headquarters is on lockdown, according to Reuters.

Boston Marathon officials shared this message on Facebook: "There were two bombs that exploded near the finish line in today's Boston Marathon. We are working with law enforcement to understand what exactly has happened."

The Boston Marathon website shows that 974 people from Illinois were registered to participate in this year's event, including seven from Barrington and one from Lake Zurich.
