Hundreds in Barrington Still Without Power

An update on power outages in the village of Barrington as of 4 p.m. July 13.

ComEd is still working hard to restore power to all customers, including those without electricity in the village of Barrington.

Public Works Director Dennis Burmeister estimated 400 to 500 homes in the village are still in the dark as of 4 p.m. July 13.

"This is one of the worst outages they've had, so the magnitude is enormous," Burmeister said.

Public Works crews are doing what they can to clean up after the storm, including removing tree branches and debris.

"Our crews have done an outstanding job removing hazard tree limbs," Burmeister said. "They are working 12 hour shifts."

Burmeister stressed that Public Works crews cannot tamper with tree branches or limbs draped over power lines for safety reasons.

"We cannot cut on power lines. ComEd only can do that. It's too dangerous for anyone but their crews," he said. "There's sometimes a misconception that village crews could come out and cut these trees on the power lines but we cannot do that."
