  • Late Spring Ramble
We will take a 90 minute plus hike on our trail system to see what is happening in the natural world at this time of the year. |Sunday, June 2, 1 pm 
  • Explore the Forest
Join the Forest Preserve and Chicago Wilderness for this “Leave No Child Inside” event. Come out and experience the many ways FPDCC has been fulfilling its mission to preserve, protect and restore the scenic beauties of Cook County. Check out the equipment used for restoration activities, speak with a wildlife biologist or ecologist, meet some of the local fish and learn about all the recreation opportunities. Enjoy our children’s Explore Nature area and participate in crafts and activities.  |Sunday, June 9, noon-4pm
  • Oil Pastels
Come see this demonstration on how to create realistic images of nature using oil pastels. Taught by artist Irene Peterson. Registration required. |Sunday, June 16, 1 pm
  • Moonlight and Fireflies
Join a naturalist for an evening hike to look for fireflies and see who else is active during the night of a full moon.Registration Required – 10 yrs. and up with Adult |Friday, June 21, 8:30 pm
  • Animal Adventures Day Camp
Search for crawling, slithering and flying creatures in this activity packed day camp!Registration/Release Form Required/ 5 – 8 yrs. $10 per child |Wednesday & Thursday, June 19 & 20, 9:30am - noon
  • Who Goes There?
Be a nature detective as we track signs of wildlife and investigate what the animal was doing or where it was going. What evidence might we find? |Sunday, June 23, 1 pm
  •  Gone Fishin’ Day Camp
The first day will be spent investigating fish. The second day we will go fishing at a local lake. (Parent participation is requested for the second day.) Registration/Release Form Required - Ages 7 – 12 yrs. |Wednesday & Thursday, June 26 & 27, 9:30 –noon.
  •  Up From the Ashes
Much of the northern two thirds of Illinois were affected by fires.  We’ll take a stroll through Phantom Prairie to see what is growing after the burn that was conducted here last Fall.  This 2 mile hike will include a natural history lesson on Illinois prairies.  Water, light colored clothing, socks, shoes, hat, and binoculars are suggested. |Sunday, June 30, 1 pm
