Local Writers Take Work to the Stage

It was a night of poetry, play reading and tango dancing at the Barrington Ice House Mall on Friday.   Local screenwriters and poets watched their work come to life before a crowd of some 50 Barrington patrons for the Third Friday in the Gallery live theater performance. 

The audience was also treated to several sets of Argentine tango dancing by local Latin dance champions Natalie and Angel Paramonov.   

"We're just so pleased with the Third Friday crowd tonight," said director Nita Hunter.  "Clearly, the word is out that Barrington is a vibrant artistic community with a particular interest in theater."       

Barrington resident Christina Stoval, who submitted her work called, "Because I Said So," a musical poem of parental declarations, joined family and friends to watch the stage interpretation of her piece.   

"I'm the mother of three young children, so I have plenty of inspiration and a significant need for a creative outlet," she said.  Stoval is an active member of the Barrington Writers Workshop, a 34-year old community of local writers dedicated to sharing and promoting the writing craft.

Barrington actors Donna and Bill Syverson, who speciaize in historical reenactments, moved to the village two years ago and recently joined the newly formed Third Friday Players theatrical group.

"There's so much artistic potential is this community," said Donna. "Live theater is gaining momentum in Barrington with Third Fridays in the the Gallery and we're excited to be a part of it."
