Chicagoland news to talk about: Boy found dead at Cook County's "worst hoarder house ever"

 

A 14-year-old boy was found dead outside of a squalid Berwyn animal hoarder home, Thursday. The bungalow contained more than 200 animals, many sick and hungry. Cook County animal control investigators said it was the worst case of animal hoarding they had ever seen, according to the Huffington Post. The mother of the child is under investigation.

According to police reports, the man and woman, in their 40s, appeared to have suffered some sort of trauma. Autopsies are scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.

Northbrook Patch reports that a man fired his gun in a Northbrook subdivision and 75 police officers and SWAT officers converged on the neighborhood, Thursday afternoon. Officers coaxed the armed man out of his home after he got into a fight with his parents. The three-hour armed standoff ended peacefully when police took the  51-year-old Northbrook man into custody.

In state news, Gov. Pat Quinn on Thursday delivered phase two of his plan to "manage the state budget." The governor laid the blame for the closures and jobs cuts at the feet of the General Assembly and the Legislature's $33.2 billion budget for fiscal 2012.
