Patch Picks: Barrington Area Summer Camps

A list of five great summer camps to send your child to this year.

Patch is now running a new weekly feature called Patch Picks, highlighting editor and reader picks of great local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, ways to spend a day off, and more.

This week we selected a list of fun summer day camps in the area. Camp activities are for all ages, and range from adventure to sports. 

1. KinderCare, 32W939 Algonquin Road, Barrington Hills

This early learning center offers 12 summer camp programs that run from May to August. Camps include Sport Smarts, Scienterrific, Wilderness 101, Dig Ancient Egypt, Splish, Splash!, Gross and Gooey Science, Spectacular Sports, Animal Antics, Feats of Science, Art Expo, Kids’ Kitchen, and Wild, Wild West.

2. TT Patton, 123 East Station Street, Barrington

This stationary shop in downtown Barrington is offering a variety of writing workshops for children this summer. June workshops include Creative Writing, Short but Fiction, and Using the Write Ingredients.  July workshops include TT Patton’s Poetry, Creative Writing, Short but Fiction and Using the Write Ingredients. 3. Buehler YMCA, 1400 W. Northwest Highway, Palatine

Buehler YMCA offers a full list of camp options, including programs for Young Explorers (ages 4-6) like Fun with Food, Dinosaur Detectives, Wacky Scientists, Underwater Adventures and more. Specialty Day Camp options are also available for older children, like Pirate Camp for ages 6-8 and It’s Magic! for ages 7-12. Most camps run June – Aug. 

4. Barrington Youth Football

BYF is offering summer camp Monday-Thursday the weeks of June 13 and 20. Camp will run from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Beese Park. This camp is designed to teach young players the fundamentals of the game.

5. Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois

This camp isn't located in Barrington, but offers a sleep-away camp option for young girls from our area. Camp McCormick is  a 400 acre facility located a few miles south of Rockford, Illinois. It offers  amp facilities include a central dining hall, outdoor pool, showers, craft building, health center, hiking trails, covered wagons, Adirondacks, and platform tents.
