Hart Road to be resurfaced and made safer for bicyclists and pedestrians.

In the coming weeks, the Lake County Division of Transportation will be out in the Lake Zurich, Barrington, Wauconda area resurfacing and improving several county roadways.

Lake County Dist. 17 Rep. Nick Sauer asks that residents spread the news about these upcoming projects and the benefit their improved condition will have for the area.

The projects currently planned for construction/repaving in this area include:

 Miller Road

Work to correct a chronic road flooding problem will take place this year with Lake County DOT elevating Miller Road and constructing a three span bridge just east of IL Route 59. Residents that live in the area and regularly travel Miller Road are familiar with the "low spot" and the "Water on Pavement" signs that sprout up during wet weather. This project is expected to begin this summer with the construction of the new bridge, which will require a 90 day closure of the road to all traffic from Route 59 to Biltmore Drive. The entire project is expected to take about one year to construct and will be completed in early 2014.

Route 176 and Fairfield Road

The County is planning to complete the construction of the intersection improvement on IL Route 176 at Fairfield Road this year. This significant transportation improvement is an important part of the County's Challenge Bond Program to bring congestion relief to residents. When complete, this improvement will add new turn lanes and through lanes in all four directions and move traffic more efficiently at that notoriously congested location.

Hart Road and Darrel Road Resurfacing

There will be two county highways resurfaced this summer around  District 17 with Darrel Road being resurfaced from IL Route 176 south to Riverwalk Lane and Hart Road being resurfaced from US Route 14 south to Lake-Cook Road (along Barrington High School's property). In addition to resurfacing these roadways, the paved shoulders will be widened to make them more "bicycle friendly" and safer for pedestrians.

Culvert Replacement at Cuba Road and Miller Road

Lake County will also be replacing pipe culverts that cross under two County Highways in District 17 this spring. In the coming weeks, Cuba Road will be closed to through traffic for 10 days between Ela Road and IL Route 59 and Miller Road will be closed to through traffic for five days between Route 59 and Kelsey Road. These closures will take place at separate times from one another and are necessary due to the disruptive nature of the work that must take place. These road closures are expected to occur later this spring.

Quentin Road and Route 12

The long awaited improvement of the intersection of Quentin Road at US Route 12 is now underway with the contractor prepared to install temporary traffic signals and begin intersection work, now that the weather has improved. Once construction does begins in the coming weeks, motorists can expect to see the same number of traffic lanes kept open to traffic in all directions, with the exception of temporary lane closures to allow for specific construction activities during the hours of 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (off peak).
